Suntour ARX R Derailleur. This one is from 1985. Frank Berto tested this particular changer in his derailleur shifting performance machine while doing research for his book on derailleurs, The Dancing Chain. The triple pulley design wasn’t attractive to look at, but the capacity 34 t was very high, it didn’t have a long arm to snag on weeds and rocks, and was extremely solidly built. It should have taken off, but the funny looks killed it… it took up the slack of a very wide drivetrain with that third pulley, but when you went for the large sprocket and higher gears, the third pulley lifted up and out of the way for less drag where you really needed it… at speed…
This changer has been hidden in a drawer since 1985… it needs a chance to shine and turn (nay-shaking) heads…
